In Designers Remix we acknowledges that we are part of an extremely complex industry with a lot of social and environmental challenges.
For Designers Remix, we have always felt that our responsibilities, is not only about making sure our products live up to our customers high quality expectations, but also that they are produced both social and environmental responsible.
Since 2007 we have been a member of and supported the UN Global Compact’s 10 principles about human rights, labor rights, environmental protection and anti-corruption. These principles are backbone for how we every day work to improve the conditions for our people and our planet.
To us, full transparency is a natural extension of our responsibilities and the way we act in accordance to these. Should you have any questions regarding our social and environmental practices please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
The people that make our products:
We believe in long lasting partnerships with our suppliers. Build trust and you can change and improve things together, and you actually may end up getting really good friends as well. But we know that being good friends this not enough! Therefore, we also demand that our garment suppliers are committed to improve working conditions for their employees and that they are audited by BSCI or a similar organization.
The Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) is an initiative for companies committed to improve the working condition. By Monitoring, empowering and Engaging, BSCI supports our partners to improve the working conditions though one common code of Conduct.
Needless to say that we have a zero tolerance approach against corruption in all its forms.
We all know that there is no planet B, so we better take good care of the one we have.
When we look at the boundaries of our planet from a perspective of energy emission, water consumption, chemical usage, land use and waste creation, we can see that several of these planetary boundaries have already been breached.
This is not caused by the fashion industry alone, but as one of the most polluting and resource intensive industries in the world we need to take responsibility for reducing the environmental impact we have on our planet.
To us the magic is in the fabric, as this is where our creative decisions can make an environmental impact.
We use the HIGG Materials Sustainability Index developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, which ranks the environmental impact of fabrics, as a guide to make us take the better environmental choices when we choose our fabrics.
Within each fabric group we try to find the most environmental preferred choice. We call these environmental preferred fabrics our magical fabrics.
Our 2020 circular fashion commitment:
Approximately 80% of all clothes that are being produced end up in landfills and incinerators, and less than 1% are being recycled into new clothes. What a waste! We believe that we need to loop more of what we have already made back into the fashion system, so less get thrown out and we limit the amount of waste we create.
That is why we at the end of 2017 we signed up to the Global Fashion Agenda’s 2020 Circular Fashion Commitment, which is a super cool initiative to speed up the transition to a circular fashion system, since today’s liniar ”take, make, dispose” economic model in the fashion industry is really kind of outdated.
Under the 2020 Circular Fashion Commitment we have committed us to the implementing the following 3 action points:
- By 2020, a minimum of 50% of our collection ranges will be made with mono-fiber, which makes it possible to loop back more products into the fashion system.
- By 2020, we will implement a garment collection scheme for all of our stores and our online shop.
- By 2020, we will increase the resale of used garments by establishing a platform for Designers Remix Preloved and Little Remix Preloved products.
We have already implemented the garment collection scheme and if you want to return one of your old Designers Remix or Little Remix styles to us you can request a free post label by contacting us at email@example.com
And you can read more about the 2020 Circular Fashion Commitment and our progress at http://www.globalfashionagenda.com/commitment/
Besides our 2020 Circular Fashion Commitment, we have also partnered up with the German company I:CO, who is a leading global solutions provider and innovator for collection, reuse and recycling of used clothing. I:CO, which stand for “I collect”, work with both reuse, closed and open loop recycling to secure that our recycled and left over garments are not ending up in landfills and incinerators.
As we strive to take care of the people who work for us and the planet we live in, we also feel obligated to take care of our fellow living species who we share our planet with.
We do not use fur from animals that have been bred exclusively for the fur, nor do we use any exotic animal skin, exotic animal hair or down feathers in our products.
As we only use fur and leather from animals who have been bred in farms for human food production we the consider our fur and leather products to be recycled products as they are waste products from the food industry.
All our merino wool is sourced from certified non-mulesed sheep farms and we do not use Angora wool.
If you have any questions regarding our animal welfare policies please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
